Style: Romantic, Moody, Mountain Season: Fall Submitted by: Kaitlin Yoder Photography

“This sunrise wedding amongst the Rocky Mountains has romance written all over it.”

This styled mountain wedding shoot was inspired by the personal elopement of photographer Kaitlin Yoder who was also married in Alberta’s Canmore amongst the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. With her previous “been there before” experience, Kaitlin’s vision for the shoot was to mix nature and love in a naturally artistic way. We can see this wedding shoot breathes romanticism and intimacy which has been captured by Kaitlin in a moody photographic style. Going against the grain, the creative team decided on a morning wedding shoot providing an alternative idea for brides-to-be to the traditional afternoon nuptials. And tying into the morning wedding theme, they chose a unique style dessert - a waffle wedding cake to complement other cosy elements like oversized blankets, blush tones and their travellers’ mugs. The colour palette included warm tones like her blush sweater, her boots and bouquet to contrast the spectacular icy backdrop and the highly anticipated larching season in Canada.

ADVICE TO FUTURE BRIDES ON PLANNING A MOUNTAIN WEDDING

When planning an outdoor mountain wedding, Kaitlin’s one tip is to “use the weather to your advantage. Weather is so unpredictable, and you just have to deal with whatever comes your way and make it work for your special moment.” These vendors took a leaf out of their own book. On the morning of the shoot, they had freshly fallen snow and heavy fog which screened the Three Sisters Mountain range in the background. However, they embraced what they had and were still up before dawn to glam up their bride who made it to the bottom of the mountain just in time for sunrise. Kaitlin chose to collaborate with all local vendors which is something we love for more than just environmental reasons! Kaitlin said “Each vendor poured their heart and soul into their work for this shoot and it came out incredible. Who else would be willing to wake up at 4:45 AM to get ready for a freezing cold mountain shoot? Only the best!”
WE LOVE: His timber wedding ring, the blush sweater and dress combo, that globally travelled handmade mug and that waffle cake goes without saying right?! But how could we possible choose favourites – every touch has been thoughtfully combined and beautifully portrayed.

ADVICE TO OTHER COLLABORATORS

Kaitlin’s advice to other vendors looking to collaborate on a styled shoot is “Just start! It can be such an overwhelming process as you're essentially planning a wedding. I spent way too many late nights organizing this project and had to put a lot of trust in the vendors I was working with." Kaitlin also says “You have to create a shoot that each vendor you work with believes in. Find your people who believe in you as much as you believe in your idea. That person for me was Nikole, our hair and makeup stylist. A styled shoot process also leaves you with a lot of new friends. It can be a very challenging experience but, in the end, it's worth it!” Thank you, Kaitlin for submitting your beautiful Rocky Mountain Styled Wedding Shoot on Wedding Vault.
