Our Love Story

New job and a new career. I never thought that I would meet my future husband. Let’s face it, everybody knows that office romances are cheesy - and how could it possibly last working with that same person day in and day out. It was my first day and I was determined to get my head down and get to work, but Adam had other ideas. He took my induction lesson and he tells me that it was the first moment he saw me that he realised that he was falling in love. I, of course, took no notice and had no interest in pursuing anything with this person I knew nothing about. Being newly single, I was happy just going to work, doing my job and then going home. Adam, on the other hand, really needed to find out more about this "new girl" so invested some time in finding out some more information about me persuaded me to go out with him. Obviously, his persistence paid off because 6 years later we are happily married and couldn't imagine our lives without each other. The moment for me was after receiving 12 long stemmed roses and realising that he was the sweetest, most selfless guy anyone could ever meet and if I didn't give it a chance then I'd risk never finding someone like him again. There is no one else quite like him and I am very lucky to have decided to go on that first date all those years ago. Adam says he knew from that first day that we could make it work. I know now that I should never doubt him ever again :)

The Proposal

Our proposal was beautiful - and it really was like a scene from a movie. We were holidaying in Sydney and had climbed the Harbour Bridge the previous day. My girlfriend had recently got engaged and so over a gorgeous harbour dinner, we were talking about her wedding. Little did I know that it would be my turn in a matter of hours later. We went for a walk along the harbour, passing the Opera House and sitting just in front of it looking out to the Harbour Bridge. We were sitting there for ages and I just assumed we were reminiscing about the great day we had on the Bridge but he was actually waiting for all the people around us to disappear, so it could just be us in the moment. Just when I said I was ready to go back to the hotel, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Well, at least we think so as he did actually forget to put the ring on my finger. Poor Ads was so nervous that he did forget that one vital detail. He says he was trying to remember everything he wanted to say that he got a little bit overwhelmed, especially as there were a few people still walking past and staring at us. It was a complete shock but I was delighted and couldn't wait to share our news with everyone. We decided we were going to enjoy the weekend and not share our news until the following day. We wanted to basque in our moment for as long as we could. I remember staring at my ring on the train on the way back to the hotel and we both couldn't take the smiles off our faces. The proposal and the ring were both a surprise and I'm so glad it was because it made the moment that much more special. Sydney is now a special place for us and we even went back there on the way to our honeymoon and stayed at the same hotel. I will never forget the feeling I got on that day and how it made me feel for the weeks and even months afterwards.

Our Wedding Day

Our wedding day was so magical. Everything went to plan and was so perfect. All through the planning, we had said that we wanted the day to reflect us and to be as relaxed and simple as possible. As long as our closest friends and family were there to celebrate, then everything else would be a bonus. Having our ceremony along the river at Matilda Bay added to this vibe as there is nothing better than being out in the Western Australian sunshine. The wedding day was early autumn so we were still getting lovely summer days and nights around that time. It was a beautiful, sunny 30 degree day, basically perfect, with just the right amount of warmth and a perfect breezy evening. I walked down the aisle to my favourite singer, Bernard Fanning. The tree on the foreshore we got married under provided some shade for our bridal party and our guests. On the day we had 112 of our nearest and dearest. Our celebrant, Chris Temov, made everything so comfortable and enjoyable and we were complimented afterwards about how lovely and engaging he was. Adam and I wrote our own vows and they were a surprise for each other on the day. We often talk about how similar our vows were and how we both put in the right amount of humour but also kept them sincere and beautiful. Not surprisingly we both mentioned our love of our football teams (Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles) and our 2 fur babies who even got a mention. We wanted to include all of the special people in our lives in the day somehow, so we had our brother and sister as Best Man and Maid of Honour, our best mates as groomsmen and bridesmaids, our sister in law and friend as readers during the ceremony and our brother in law as a witness on the registry. Adam’s longest friend also created a caricature for us which we used as our welcome sign at the ceremony. During the ceremony we also paid tribute to some special people who were no longer with us. Our reception was held at the best location in Perth. Keeping to theme of “by the water” we held our reception at the beautiful Acqua Viva on the Swan, which is a little gem you will find on the jetty in the waterside suburb of Nedlands. It is literally on the water and has magnificent 360 degree views of Perth and surrounds. We knew instantly this was the place for us. I mean, how can you go past that view. We think about that day and we are still on cloud nine because everything about our reception was amazing and Umberto and his team of staff are second to none. 5 months on and we are still getting comments from our guests saying they have never eaten food as good as they have there, or been to a wedding at a location as beautiful. Rebecca was our wedding coordinator and we knew everything would be in safe hands with her and we never doubted that there would be any issues with bringing our vision to life. They take so much pride in the venue and it shows through their service and food. We may be a little biased but it is hands down the number 1 venue for special events in Perth. We are looking forward to celebrating many anniversaries at their restaurant Jojo’s in the future.

Best Memories

The best memory on the day for us was finally becoming husband and wife and seeing all of our years of planning coming together. We enjoyed everything about the lead up to the day and then getting to share such a special moment in our lives with everyone that we love. There’s nothing we would change and our only wish is to replay the day over again as it went by too fast. As Ben Harper sang in our first dance song “ Give me your forever, not a day less would do, from you.”

Special Thanks

A special thanks needs to be given to some of our family who flew from the eastern states to be there for us. We appreciate the effort and time they spent ensuring they were there and we will always appreciate it. Of course, to every single one of our vendors – we believe they were the best in the business and we were very privileged to be able to have them as part of our day. If it wasn’t for them, our vision would never have come to life. To our parents and families for their guidance, love and support, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And finally to our awesome bridal party. We couldn’t have gotten through the day without them and we couldn’t imagine having anyone else stand with us to witness the best day ever. Thanks a billion – we love you guys, you are so awesome.
